Most holiday excursions involve some trip or other. Touring landmarks or taking a cruise around an island. What you don’t expect is a culinary master class in the local cuisine.
Meet Juan Luis & Rosa Jimenez of Cook and Taste, a welcoming, passionate couple who offer not merely education but a dining experience using locally sourced produce in a modern excellently appointed kitchen located within the business complex of Adeje.
I have never had a formal education in the kitchen and this for me was something completely new. The experience I must say surpassed all my expectations. I had enrolled on a class entitled “Cooking from all over Spain”, and the dish I was most eager and hoped to prepare was Paella. If like me you think of Paella as fishy rice with peas supplied by Birds Eye, then a visit with Juan & Rosa will be an earth shattering revelation.
The menu for the class i attended was Gazpacho, followed by Spanish omelette served with garlic en-fused bread over a salsa topping, followed by a seafood Paella of Calamari, Mussels, Clams, and Tempura Prawns; dessert was a Forest Fruits crumble made with a creamy Canarian foam.
The class or culinary journey takes a scheduled 3 hours which includes lunch or dinner depending on the time of day. I spent €36 one evening at a seaside restaurant to sample the best Paella on the coast. Let me tell you, what I made under the direction of Juan blew that dish back to the ocean.
